Nudi to Unicode Converter

Free Nudi to Unicode converter — turn old Nudi / Baraha Kannada text into Unicode that works everywhere, or Unicode back into Nudi. Converts Word files too.

Word files (.docx) are converted Nudi → Unicode with their formatting; only text set in Nudi or Baraha fonts changes, and it switches to Nirmala UI. Everything stays on your device.

Unicode Kannada

Font

Nudi text is shown in your Nudi font if one is installed (Nudi 01 e and similar); otherwise you'll see Latin letters like PÀ£ÀßqÀ — that's normal. Get Nudi from Kannada Ganaka Parishat.

What is the Nudi to Unicode Converter?

Before Unicode, Kannada software such as Nudi (up to version 5) and Baraha stored Kannada letters as Latin characters that only Nudi fonts draw correctly. Open such a document on another computer and ಕನ್ನಡ shows up as 'PÀ£ÀßqÀ'. This converter turns that text into Unicode Kannada, which works everywhere, and can turn Unicode back into Nudi for offices still using the old fonts.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Kannada document show strange letters?

It was typed with a Nudi or Baraha font. Without that font, the stored Latin characters show instead. Converting to Unicode fixes it for good.

Is the conversion exact?

Ordinary text, conjuncts and the reph convert accurately. Rare symbols and words typed with tricks for a specific font may need a quick check.

Does it work for old .doc files?

Open them in Word and save as .docx first, then convert.
